Womens Athletic Alumnae
The Women's Athletic Alumnae (WAA) chapter was founded in 1987 and is a volunteer group of former women athletes, coaches and administrators who support women?s athletics at Western. With an athletic program reaching back to 1923 and official acceptance into inter university competition in 1927, Western has a long and proud record of excellence.
There are over 1650 former women athletes 'out there' and the WAA hopes to reach most of them through their newsletter 'InBounds', which is published once or twice a year with support from the department of alumni relations. We are always looking for interesting information from our former athletes so please send snippets and photos to our editor Eva Havaris and she'll try to include them in our next edition. And of course we will include and update on what's happening for our women athletes of today.
Every year the WAA hosts a reception for the coaches and captains of all women/s teams and together with the "W" Club hosts a reception for all graduating athletes in the spring at Gibbons Lodge, the home of our Honorary president.
If you have ideas to strengthen our support for the women athletes at Western, we would like to hear from you. Our student athletes are a group of dedicated young women who love to compete in sports - and all too often are paying dearly for the privilege of representing Western.
